Barry left his native Australia, complete with that infectious “Down-Under” accent, to follow his music mentor, who had moved to the United States to accept a teaching position at Julliard in New York. Barry’s voyage here took him by way of Switzerland, where he lived a number of years. During that thime he appeared in World Accordion Championship and won the “Grand Prix Brunnenhof” – a prestigious international music competition open to all artists. He played in ski resorts such as Zermatt, Gstaad, Crans Montana Verbier and Vilars. Barry also performed in the beautiful after dinner lounge of the cruise ship Caledonian (Messargeries Maritime). Here in the U.S. his musical tunes have been enjoyed at such diverse venues as The Ice House in Pasadena, California, The Bayou Room on venerable Bourbon Street in New Orleans, The Hoffbrau in Manhattan’s Germantown and The Village Barn in Greenwich Village.

We are currently seeing a tremendous resurgence of interest in the accordion. The accordion lends itself to more types of music than any other instrument. A recent Rolling Stone magazine survey named the accordion “the hottest sound of the year – surpassing all other instruments.” And when you hear Barry perform, you will understand why. He plays his accordion with an electrifying energy – from absolute foot-stomping, bellow-shaking bluegrass to sophisticated, symphonic fantasies. His travels, musical studies and diverse background have all contributed to his uncanny ability to arrange and personalize his repertoire of music.

Thank goodness the right time, right place and Barry’s brilliant instrumental charisma have all come together permitting an opportunity for incredible listening pleasure. His appeal is truly universal. Give him a listen, and be ready – his playing style is unique, his performance unforgettable… most likely you will never yawn again when you see an accordion!
